Friends of the Library PDF Print

The Friends of the Indian Prairie Public Library was founded in 1986 to create a nonprofit group of volunteers who are dedicated to supporting the library through volunteer services and fundraising activities.  Since 1996, the Friends have contributed more than $100,000 to the library.

The Friends raise money through:

  • an ongoing used book sale in the Book Nook in the lobby (monthly sales from this mini bookstore average $700)
  • Shop & Share Days through Jewel Food Stores
  • the sale of Entertainment books
  • the sale of library themed book bags and bookmarks
  • an annual used book sale

The Friends also help the library by:

  • funding special programs like the travel series, antique appraisals, art lecture and the Lyric Opera Lecture series
  • purchasing the public performance licenses that allow the library to show movies
  • supplying extra computer printers and software
  • furnishing big books and Kreative Krates for Youth Services
  • providing extra shelving and display racks

The Friends meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m.  The annual meeting is held on the second Tuesday in January (time to be announced later).  Elections of officers takes place at the annual meeting.

To join the Friends of the Indian Prairie Public Library, please print and fill out the membership form (PDF).  Membership dues range from $5 for an individual membership to $100 for a lifetime membership.  For more information, please contact Laura Birmingham, Assistant Director, at 630/887-8760 ext. 243.
