American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry
Site with information for both caregivers and care recipients; includes depression and dementia fact sheets, resources for caregivers, and the latest caregiver research.

American Association of Retired Persons (AARP)
Includes free searchable databases for nursing homes, assisted living centers, home health agencies and hospices; articles on all aspects of aging and caregiving; features reading lists, checklists and links to organizations.

Center for Family Caregivers
Comforting, user-friendly site which offers six online support groups, survival guides, weekly tips, FAQs and access to a variety of resource materials.

Family Caregiver Alliance Resource Center
Provides information on a variety of caregiving resources; 40+ fact sheets (some in Spanish and Chinese); online support groups and care planning consultation; policy alerts.

Illinois Department on Aging
Presents Web resources for persons caring for older relatives. Includes local, state and national resources for caregivers. Benefit programs are explained.

Medicare for Caregivers
This user-friendly site includes a directory of participating physicians, comparison of supplemental insurance plans (Medigap), and data from Nursing Home Compare. Also visit www.cms.gov for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.  

National Alliance for Caregiving
Provides tips for caregivers, links to other caregiving resources, and the AXA Family Foundation Family Care Resource Connection, a comprehensive database of books, Web sites, and other family caregiving resources.

National Council on Aging
Lists more than 1,000 federal and state assistance programs for older adults. An online questionnaire helps the user identify what programs he or she may be entitled to, along with instructions on how to apply for them.

Needy Meds
Needy Meds lists pharmaceutical companies that offer programs to assist patients unable to buy necessary medicines.

Northeastern Illinois Area Agency on Aging
Site with information for both caregivers and care recipients. Includes information on local resources in northeastern Illinois for the National Family Caregiver Support Program and links to state and national resources.

Nursing Home Compare
This tool provides detailed information about the past performance of every Medicare and Medicaid certified nursing home in the country. Also includes a Guide to Choosing a Nursing Home and a Nursing Home Checklist to help you with your nursing home choice.

The U.S. Administration on Aging
Site for caregivers with information on caregiving and care recipients. Includes links to local, state and national resources.

The U.S. Administration on Aging Online Eldercare Locator
By entering a zip code, caregivers and older persons can locate local information and referral organizations. These organizations can help them locate appropriate services. The Eldercare Locator can also be reached by calling 800/677-1116.

Well Spouse
Provides spouses of the frail elderly with a virtual support community, including message boards and live Internet chats with other spouse caregivers. Links to disease-specific Internet sites are also highlighted.
