Indian Prairie Library Volunteers

Many of our volunteers are retirees who help the library and the community by offering their time and valuable skills to:

  • organize and run book sales and various fundraising activites to help support summer reading, regular programming, and other events.
  • operate the in-house Book Nook that sells used books, videos, and other materials year-round.
  • help with the Veterans History Project, Homebound Delivery, and other activities.
  • assist with the day-to-day operations of the library.

West Suburban Humane Society

Volunteers help with adoptions, animal transporting, building maintenance, fundraising, humane education programs, temporary care and with other projects.

 

Literacy Volunteers of DuPage

This nonprofit, community-based organization trains volunteer tutors to help adult learners achieve sufficient skills in English literacy so they may achieve personal goals and function independently.

 

People's Resource Center

Operates a food pantry for DuPage County, distributes clothing, offers family literacy instruction, and provides computer training.

 

School on Wheels

Provides free one-on-one literacy education for low-income immigrant and minority adults and needs volunteers.

 

Senior Corps in Illinois

More than 18,000 seniors in Illinois serve as foster grandparents, senior companions, safety patrols, mentors and tutors, and volunteer in many other ways.

 

AARP - Community Service Programs in Illinois
