Returning

I returned an item last night and it still shows on my record. Why?

During busy times, it is not unusual for it to take us 24-48 hours (or longer during holiday closings) to check items in.  Every bin is dated and when we check things in, we make sure that the date on the computers matches the date the item was actually returned. Watch this video to see materials being checked in.

Why does my record say I owe money when I returned my item(s) on time?

The computer system is giving you an estimated fine that will be charded if the item(s) is late.  Because we "back date", your item(s) will show returned on time.

Library Card

Can I borrow items without my library card?

A patron who has a current library card may use an ID with their current address to check out materials.  Over the phone, no patron information will be given out without the patron's library card number and full name.

I think I returned an item but it's still checked out to me.  What do I do?

Call the Circulation Department immediately to let us know (630/887-8760).  We will check the shelves to see if the item is there.  If we don't find it quickly, we will look again as well as ask you to check again at home or in your car.  We will work with you to resolve any problems.
