Computers & Internet

Computers are provided for public access to the Internet, reference databases, the on-line catalog, software products and games. Wireless service is available for patrons who have a device capable of accessing a wireless network. Printers are available to print from the library's computers and laptops.

INTERNET COMPUTER STATIONS & LAPTOPS

A valid library card is needed to use computers with Internet access except designated Guest comptuers. Microsoft Office 2010 Suite is available on all Internet computers. Reservations may be made one day in advance.  Computers with reservations will shut down 5 minutes prior to the reservation time.

Internet Computers are located:

• 1st Floor- Adult workstations are for adults and kids over the age of 14 and laptops are for adults 18 and older. (photo ID & Indian Prairie Library (IPPL) card required for laptop use in library).  Guests (non IPPL card holders) are limited to workstations 11 & 12 and express stations.
• 2nd floor - Kids workstaions for children under the age of 18 or adults with children and laptops for Teens and adult with children (IPPL card required for laptop use in this area)

REFERENCE DATABASE COMPUTERS

• Located by the subject areas (first floor) and Kids & Teens (second floor)
• These computers are designated for research/reference databases, library catalog and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Adult database computers have typing and mouse tutorials to practice your keyboarding and mouse skills.
• Kids database computers have homework help resources and Tumblebooks.

LIBRARY CATALOG COMPUTERS

• Located in the lobby next to  the self-check stations and by the database computers (1st floor) and Kids & Teens (2nd floor)
• Search the library catalog using the SWAN online catalog or Encore.
• Use "My Account" (standard) or "login" (Encore) to renew materials, pay fines, and place reserves.

LITERACY COMPUTER

• Available upon request.  Please contact the 1st Floor Ask Us Desk.
• The literacy computer has software for improving English reading, writing and comprehension skills

PRINTING

Pay, print, and pick-up print jobs sent from library computer stations or laptops at Print Center.  Print jobs need to be picked up within 4 hours of sending the job.  Wireless Printing is also available for those wanting to print from their own equipment.  See instructions.

SCANNERS

There is a scan station on the 1st floor adult computer aree to scan and either print, save to usb or email your scanned item.  There is also a flat bed scanner available in Kids & Teens.
