The Friends of the Indian Prairie Public Library was founded in 1986 to create a nonprofit group of volunteers who are dedicated to supporting the library through volunteer services and fundraising activities. Since 1996, the Friends have contributed more than $150,000 to the library.
The Friends raise money through:
-
an ongoing used book sale in the Book Nook in the lobby
- the sale of library themed book bags
-
an annual used book sale
- benefit days at local restaurants
- ornament sale
The Friends also help the library by:
-
funding special programs like the travel series, antique appraisals, art lectures and the Lyric Opera Lecture series
- supporting summer reading for children, teens and adults
-
purchasing the public performance licenses that allow the library to show movies
- funding the purchase of equipment and materials outside the library budget
The Friends meet on the second Tuesday of every other month (February, April, June, August, October, and December) at 1:30 p.m.
If you love libraries and would like to help the Friends in their work, join us. Simply print and fill out the membership form (PDF).
