The Friends of the Indian Prairie Public Library was founded in 1986 to create a nonprofit group of volunteers who are dedicated to supporting the library through volunteer services and fundraising activities. Since 1996, the Friends have contributed more than $200,000 to the library.

The Friends raise money through:

  • an ongoing used book sale in the Book Nook in the Inspiration CafĂ©
  • the sale of reusable book bags
  • an annual used book sale

The Friends also help the library by:

  • funding special programs like the travel series, art lectures, and the Lyric Opera Lecture series
  • supporting summer reading for children, teens, and adults
  • purchasing the public performance licenses that allow the library to show movies
  • funding the purchase of equipment and materials outside the library budget
