 Adult Services Associate

The Indian Prairie Public Library is seeking a part time (15 hours/week) Adult Services Associate. If you love working with people, consider joining our team as we serve the public at our busy Adult Services Desk. Key job responsibilities include providing book, movie, and music advisory; answering basic reference questions; instructing the public in the use of print and electronic resources, including eBooks and streaming content; preparing book lists and writing book, movie, and music recommendations; and registering patrons for programs and conference rooms.

The starting salary is $15.03/hour. Qualifications require a Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of experience working with the public.

The library is looking for people with enthusiasm and ideas. We offer a dynamic, engaging team environment that values initiative and each individual. Applicants must have a commitment to excellent customer service, a friendly manner, a sense of humor and be a self-starter. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Other requirements include a love of books, movies, and music, and the ability to speak to others about them in an enthusiastic manner. Applicants must be proficient in using Word, Excel, email, and the Internet; demonstrate familiarity with smartphones and tablets; and be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

 Circulation Services Associate

The Indian Prairie Public Library is seeking a part-time Circulation Associate. If you love working with people, consider joining our team! Job duties include checking materials in and out, issuing library cards, collecting fees and fines, handling incoming calls for the library and passport acceptance.

This position is 12-16 hours per week; must be available to work Monday 1-9pm, Tuesday 9-1pm, and every other weekend. The salary is $13.24 per hour.

Other requirements are a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one year of work experience involving public contact.

Substitute Adult Services Librarian/Paralibrarian

The Indian Prairie Public Library is seeking two (2) friendly, flexible substitute Adult Services Librarians/Paralibrarians. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who like to have fun while helping others. Job duties include providing reference and reader’s advisory services at a busy Adult Service Desk, instructing the public in the use of print and electronic resources, and assisting the public in using the library’s e-media content providers.

Candidates holding a MLIS from an American Library Association accredited school are preferred (Substitute Librarian). Students in an MLIS program with six credit hours or less left of coursework from an American Library Association accredited school will be considered (Substitute Paralibrarian). Qualified candidates will also have one year of experience working with the public.

Hours are assigned on an as-needed basis, including evening and weekend hours. Pay for Substitute Librarians is $17.06 per hour. Pay for Substitute Paralibrarians is $15.03 per hour, with the opportunity to move to full Substitute Librarian upon completion of MLIS coursework.
